removing 75k Pages with multilanguage content and Pagerank, that would hurt
your system.

Duplicate Metas and so on are not the worlds end, it is not as important as
in the past. And if you have some duplicated content, what will a search engine(er) do?
Ban your Site? ;)
No in this case, google simply ignores duplicate Pages/Metas on less important
pages.
But as you see, when we started connecting (or your previous build links
took weight) your site had 115.000 pages in google cache.
Some days later, today, you have 140.000 in cache. This is the herald for
some important event. Your Site has grown more prominent so google caches
more of your pages.
If there are duplicate page issues, google will decide which pages to keep
and not to keep. I will not ultimatively need canonical tags. Trust the search engine number one - it knows what it does!
The public messages about duplicated content are at first targeted to
explosive growing article farms which definitely cost Google server space, unnecessary traffic and workload.
(We should not forget!)

Google is no dump for 1000000 Versions of the same content but it will keep
2 Pages with the same information on important websites.
This is because of the checksum measurement - you have exactly the same page
twice - if one char differs, the checksum of this page is different too.

A little duplicated = small checksum difference - A huge duplicated = Large checksum difference.
On important sites, this could be important for the whole provided
information even on two pages which have the same content at first sight.

i.e. "The Mother is wearing a hose" -> slight modification, duplicate
content but another sense and also important for sense -> "The Mother is
wearing a horse"

You can do what you want with your site, but believe me - you will cry and
eat up your own hand if you are impatient with your site -I KNOW IT :)
.....i did it too, and this costed me much money and rankings.

Wait and see - it takes time before the links will kick in!
